about

This song is the result of a brainstorming session, asking each other random questions and answering with the first weird thing that came to mind. The resulting lyrics were then assembled, distilled and put to music.

lyrics

When the color of the sky is a fuzzy tangerine
And the garden gnomes are playing volleyball
When the alligator shoes whisper restless to your feet
And there’s plastic flamingos in the hall

When you hear the lonesome sound of the clicky clacky train
And you know your baby’s never comin home
Like a gypsy with a pocket full of dreams
Like a little red corvette you’ll never own

Chorus
When will it come when will it come
Some say that on the day that you stop waiting
You won’t be alone

When there’s nothing left to lose and there’s nothing left to hope
And the streets are all awash with could have been
When you memories and dreams are all lavender and dust
And it’s hard to tell the sinner from the sin

When there’s only frozen entrees and there’s bottles on the floor
And your prayers are piled like dishes in the sink
Just like a net that’s tangled empty on the shore
Just like a drunk with his drink

When will it come when will it come
Some say that on the day that you stop waiting
You’re on your way home

When there’s nowhere left to turn and there’s nothing right to do
When all your wild horses have run away
When the postman never comes and the telephone never rings
And your tongue is cold with nothing left to say

When your only deck of cards is missing all its faces
When your soul knows where the sparrows go to die
Like a piece of foil glinting in the trash
That’s when you’ll have the fire in your eye

That’s when it comes that’s when it comes
Some say that on the day that you stop waiting
You won't be alone

That’s when it comes that’s when it comes
Some say that on the day that you stop waiting
You're on your way home
